On Sunday 12 September 2021, SBB will carry out a rescue exercise to verify the intervention and evacuation procedures in an emergency event. This will take place in the over 100-year-old Simplon tunnel - which connects Switzerland to Italy - in collaboration with the Canton of Valais, the Prefecture of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and the rescue organizations.

The exercise will be held inside the Simplon tunnel and at both tunnel entrances, in Switzerland and Italy. For this exercise the participation of 120 extras is required, volunteers from 16 years of age to take on the role of travellers involved in the event.
