On September 18, 2023 Bouygues Travaux Publics teams brokethrough for the second tube of the 5.6km Ucka tunnel on the Istria motorway. This breakthrough marks the end of the excavation work, carried out using the traditional method. The tunnel, located between the municipality of Vranja and the Bay of Kvarner, will have two lanes in both directions, providing easier access to the Istrian peninsula.
The ceremony was attended by Croatian Prime Minister, Andrej Plenković, President of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandroković, Croatian Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butković, and Minister of Construction, Branko Bačić, as well as Jean-philippe Trin, Deputy CEO of Bouygues Construction and Chairman of Bouygues Travaux Publics, and Bertrand Burtschell, CEO of Bouygues Travaux Publics.
The final phase of the Y Istrian Motorway was about the alteration of the last kilometres of the current Y Expressway into a motorway and the construction of the second tube of the Učka Tunnel, which will enable the connection between Pula and Rijeka with a full-width motorway.
