The new Schuman-Josaphat tunnel opened on the 04.04.2016 allowing for trains to run through for the firet time. The Schuman-Josaphat tunnel is a direct rail link between the Brussels-Schuman station on line 161 (Namur to Brussels) and line 26 (Halle to Vilvoorde). Thanks to this underground rail link, lines 161 and 124 (Charleroi to Brussels) are now directly linked to the airport, without putting extra strain on the existing North-South connection. The tunnel also connects the European Quarter with several important cities such as Dinant, Namur, Ottignies, Charleroi and Nivelles. The Schuman-Josaphat tunnel is 1,250 m long and lies at an average depth of 15 m. Click be/16 for the tunnelbuilder archive.
