Robbins will supply the first Crossover XRE in the USA for the Akron OCIT Project in Ohio. The 9.6 m diameter TBM has been named Rosie. The name recognises Rose May Jacob and the hundreds of other Rosie's that had worked at Akron’s rubber factories during World War II, turning out material and armaments for the allied effort.
Last August the joint venture between Illinois-based Kenny Construction Co. and Tokyo-based Obayashi Corp secured the $184.1 million contract to build the Ohio Canal Interceptor Tunnel (OCIT). The tunnel will be 8.23 m in diameter, 1902 m in length and will be able to hold 9.69 million litres of storm water and sewage during heavy rain events and it will also control nine of the overflows into the Ohio & Erie Canal and Little Cuyahoga River. It’s scheduled to begin operations by Dec. 31, 2018. Visit http://www.akronwaterwaysrenewed.com/ocit.aspx and http://www.therobbinscompany.com/. 07/16.
