On 13.05.2018, Ashghal, the Public Works Authority in Qatar,
started the construction of the Mesaimeer pumping station project and sewage
tunnel, a sustainable solution for rainwater and groundwater drainage, with an
official ceremony. The 920 million QAR project involves the construction of a
pumping station with 10 pumps and ancillary works. The pumping station will be
built at the end of the Mesaimeer tunnel, south of Hamad International Airport
in Doha. The project also involves the construction of a 10 km-long tunnel 3.7
m in diameter. The pumping station, which will have a capacity of 19.7 m3/sec,
will pump water from the Mesaimeer tunnel, completed in 2016, and transport it
to the new discharge tunnel. The project is expected to be completed in the
fourth quarter of 2021, with three years of maintenance and operation. The
construction was entrusted to the Joint Venture composed of Hamad Bin Khalid
Contracting Company and PORR Qatar Construction Company. Project management
services were assigned to Mott Macdonald Ltd, who will oversee the design,
implementation and management. The Mesaimeer pumping station and sewage tunnel
project is the second phase of the Mesaimeer tunnel project for the drainage of
rainwater and groundwater. Click here for the tunnelbuilder archive.
