Pune Metro Project

15/06/2018

Pune is the second largest city in the Indian state of Maharashtra and ninth most populated city of the country. The population of the Pune metro region is more than 6 million. In order to improve the overall traffic and transportation needs in Pune Metro region and to cater the future travel needs, the Government of Maharashtra (GOM) has undertaken several studies and has identified that the Metro Rail model as the most efficient, economically viable and Environment friendly mass transport system.

Late last year the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro)  had started civil work on two metro lines: Pimpri-Swargate (Line 1) and Vanaz-Ramwadi (Line 2, totally elevated).

The 16.589 km Line 1 of the Pune Metro will run from Pimpri-Chinchwad  to Swargate with 14 Stations. The elevated stretch will start at Pimpri and go via Nashik Phata, Dapodi, Bopodi and Khadki up to Range Hills. Then the line will go underground at the agriculture college depot for almost 5.5 km to Swargate and it will include 5 stations: Shivaji Nagar, Civil Court, Budhwar Pet, Mandai and Swargate. It is proposed to further extend the line to Nigdi and Katraj/Hadapsar.

The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) has floated tenders for the underground section of the Pune Metro rail project:

•             the first phase - construction of tunnels between agriculture college and the northern end of Budhwar Peth station, and design and construction of Civil Court and Shivajinagar stations (UGC-01);

•             the second phase, from Budhwar Peth Metro station to Swargate (UGC-02).

TBMs will be used for the tunnelling work and they will be launched by the shafts at Swargate and agriculture college. Click in/80 for tunnelbuilder archive. Visit http://www.punemetrorail.org/. 24/18.
