Poyry awarded Polish railway engineering contractsPöyry has been awarded a EUR8.9 million engineering contract by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA for detail design and tender documentation for the modernization of the Warsaw Diameter Line, to add to a EUR1.1 million contract for a feasibility study for the E75 Rail Baltica line. The Diameter Line crosses the City of Warsaw between its East and West stations, running partially underground in a 2.3 km long tunnel. Pöyry will develop the detail design, environmental impact statement, tender documentation, and assistance in obtaining the opinions, approvals and permits necessary for commencing construction works. The duration of the project is 14 months. The E75 railway line runs from Warsaw to the Lithuanian border with a length of 341 km, or alternatively a 33 km longer route through Elk-Olecko, and is an important part of the Rail Baltica which connects Warsaw with Kaunas in Lithuania, Riga in Latvia, and with Tallinn in Estonia. The modernization of the E75 railway line will increase the travel speed for passenger trains to 160 km/h with an option of up to 200 km/h, and for freight traffic to 120 km/h. It will shorten the travel time on this important European transportation corridor significantly. Pöyry will conduct a feasibility study of economics, traffic, financing, and all technical aspects including the specifications for the design and implementation. The duration of this project will be 24 months.More information from Johann Schmieder in Germany, tel. +49 7621 9300-46 or visit www.poyry.com. 03/09.
