On 30.08.2016 EBITAN (Ente Binacional Túnel de Agua Negra) formed the commission to oversee the prequalification of companies interested in the construction of the Agua Negra tunnel. The 13km tunnel will go through the Andes and link the Chilean region of Coquimbo to Argentina's San Juan province. This has now been postponed until the 21^st October 2016. ‘Pablo Muñoz, Regional counselor and a member of Ebitan, pointed out that this decision was made at the request of several claims received wanting to extend this period. This is because there are a number of Chinese companies interested in being part of the process, but are having  difficulties because of their public holidays next week, so they would not be able to get their proposals in on time’.
