Poland - Warsaw will have a third metro line

On 15/03/2021 Rafał Trzaskowski, Mayor of Warsaw, announced that Warsaw, despite the considerable budget problems, will have a third metro line to be built in 3 phases. The M3 will connect the Prague-South/Prague-Południe section, on the right of the Vistula, with the center of the capital and then will connect with the Ochota and Mokotow hamlets.

As early as next week, the City Council will allocate the necessary funds for the geological and hydrological investigations for the first phase of the works relating to the construction of the section from the National Stadium/Stadion Narodowy station. It has been operational for several years and already designed as a hub for transfer to the Gocław terminus. This will be completed by 2028 and will have the following 6 new stations: East Railway Station / Dworzec Wschodni, Minska, Rondo Wiatraczna, Ostrobramska, Jana Nowaka-Jezioransk and Gocław. They have also planned a branch leading to the technical and parking station in Kozia Gorka.

The planned M3 route will be updated thanks to more recent studies and analyses on mobility in Warsaw and the changes made to the M2 alignment to the initial project.

Currently the second phase of the project involves the connection between South Prague/Prague Południe and Mokotow with two different routes:-

Alignment 1: the M3 will cross the Siekierki and Czerniakow districts of Mokotow, then cross the M1 at Racławicka and end at Warszawa Okęcie PKP station.

Alignment 2:  the M3, after crossing the Vistula, will go south, through the Augustowka and Stegny districts, then cross the M1 at Wilanowska and reach Warszawa Słuzewiec station.

The third phase of the project, the most controversial due to the partial overlap with the new M2 route, will connect the National Stadium/Stadion Narodowy station with the West Railway Station/Dworzec Zachodni, passing through Rondo Waszyngtona, the new Plac Konstytucji station (M1 interchange) and Plac Narutowicza stations.
