Beijing’s 13th five-year development plan, which was unveiled during the 12th National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing states that China is planning to construct a 126 km long undersea tunnel, from Pingtan to Taipei. This will be in order to create a high-speed rail link between the mainland and Taiwan. It is an extension of the Beijing–Fuzhou Expressway line. Technical feasibility studies have been carried out on both sides over the past four years. Now experts have a good understanding of the seabed and its geological conditions. But China is still waiting for a decision from Taiwan as to whether the project can begin. For further information visit http://www.ecns.cn/2016/03-07/201882.shtml. 10/16.
