Novel shotcrete speeds three Robbins TBMs

Once completed in 2014, the 44.6 km-long Pahang Selangor raw water tunnel in Malaysia will be the longest tunnel in Southeast Asia. The project was awarded in 2009 to the JV of Japanese companies Shimizu Corporation (30 percent) and Nishimatsu Construction (30 percent), and local companies IJM Corp (20 percent) and UEM Builders Bhd (20 percent). Three 5.23 m diameter Robbins main beam TBMs excavating the tunnel are advancing well with a novel type of shotcrete used as primary ground support under high cover. Read the press release and visit tunnelbuilder archive my/17.
