On the 26th of January the fifth TBM, made by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Group, for Moscow’s Big Circle Line was launched in the south-western section. The TBM Mary (6 m diameter) will build the left single track tunnel (350 m) from the Aminevskoye Shosse station towards Davydkovo station. It will reach the site where the single-track tunnel will be linked with a double-track built by a 10 m TBM from the Davydkovo station. The TBM will be disassembled, and it will then start building the right and middle tunnels.
Back in March 2017 the China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) secured the RUB22.98 (USD400 million) contract to build the south-western section of the BCL from the Aminyevskoye Shosse station to the Prospekt Vernadskogo station which included 3 subway stations. For the first time in the history of the Russian capital, the metro in Moscow is being laid by a Chinese contractor CRCC delivered to Moscow 5 TBMs, named Mary, Dasha, Eugene, Galina and Pauline, in honour of the heroines of Daddy's Daughters, a Russian sitcom/TV series.
The other four TBMs, named Eugene, Dasha, Polina and Galina, are already driving tunnels on sections from the Aminyevskoye Shosse to the Michurinsky Prospekt and from the Michurinsky Prospekt to the Prospekt Vernadskogo .
Big Circle Line
The 70 km BCL will have two train maintenance facilities and 31 stations. The BCL will connect 25 Moscow districts, it will reduce congestion on the metro’s first and second interchange circuits, that is, the Circle Line (N. 5) and the stations inside it. The line’s stations will open stage by stage and are expected to handle up to 380 million people annually. Currently there are now 18 tunnel boring machines working on the Big Ring.
