NFM Technologies TBM Completes Tunnelling on First Metro Line in Turin'Valeria', a second hand NFM Technologies TBM, broke through into Porta Nuova station on 19th March, 2005. This completes tunnelling both on contract 5 and on the entire first metro line in Turin. Contract 5 connects Principi d'Acaja to Porta Nuova and includes five stations (XVIII Dicembre, Porta Susa, Vinzaglio, Re Umberto and Porta Nuova). The line connects Fermi station in Collegno, east of Turin with Porta Nuova in the west, serving 15 stations. Two other TBMs, both from Lovat, have been used on the project. The line is scheduled to open in December 2005, in time for the XXth winter Olympic Games to be held in Turin in February 2006, from Collegno to XVIII Dicembre/Porta Susa, where connections will be available with the Italian railways. The Porta Susa-Porta Nuova section will open a year later. A 4 km south extension from Porta Nuova to Lingotto is planned in the future. Subscribe to E-News Weekly
