NFM Technologies EPB for Cairo MetroThe second phase of the Cairo Metro Line 3, launched in parallel with the construction of the first phase, includes separate packages covering civil, electromechanical and railway works, and is scheduled for completion in October, 2013 after 51 months of work. This new section consists of a 6.2 km underground line extension eastwards, starting at Abassia station and ending at Heliopolis, with four new stations at Cairo Fair, Stadium, Kolliet Al-Banat, and Al-Ahram Street. A Vinci/Arab Contractors/Bouygues/OCI (Orascom Construction Industries) JV will execute all civil works related to the project, including all tunnels and metro stations, for a total contract value of EUR267.4 million.The OCI/Colas Rail of France/Arab Contractors/Alstom/Thales Group consortium will also be responsible for select electromechanical work, for a total contract value of EUR96 million.A OCI/ETF (Eurovia Travaux Ferroviaires) JV will be responsible for construction work related to the railway tracks for a contract value of EUR16.5 million. In August, 2009 NFM Technologies signed a contract with Vinci/Arab Contractors/Bouygues/OCI JV to supply a 9.46 m-diameter EPB for the second phase of line 3. This includes concept and design of the TBM, its manufacture at Le Creusot, assembly and testing. The machine will excavate the 5,138 m linking the stations of Cairo Fair, Stadium and Kolliet Al-Banat in mainly clay, sand and sandstone.
