The two TBMs driving the western segment of the 10 km-long underground tunnel on Toronto’s Eglington Crosstown reached the half-way point of their journey on 21.01.2015, breaking through into the extraction shaft at Allen Road, having travelled 3,547 m from Black Creek Drive. Each TBM installed 14,124 precast concrete tunnel lining segments, which formed 2,354 rings.
The TBMs will be moved to the other side of Allen Road to bypass the TTC subway line and relaunched east towards Yonge Street to complete the 6.5 km western segment of the Crosstown tunnel.
