The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) issued a permit to HRCP - Hampton Roads Connector Partners to perform borings in the waters between the Hampton and Norfolk shorelines for the HRBT expansion project. https://www.governor.virginia.gov/newsroom/all-releases/2019/april/headline-840258-en.html
Two self-propelled lift boats, the RAM XV and RAM VII, will collect geotechnical samples to support the design of the new HRBT bridges, twin bored tunnels and island work.
The boats began boring work on October 2nd , 2019 and they will be operating until February 2020 to complete more than 400 borings that are part of the early design work. Similar work will be carried out in Willoughby Bay with smaller vessels performing borings near Oastes Creek and Mason Creek in Norfolk.
