Major Milestone for Albvorland Tunnel project

23/10/2019
On the 29th of October 2019 TBM Wanda broke through at Wendlingen am Neck for the Albvorland southern tube. The construction of the 8,176 m Albvorland tunnel, a key section of the new 60-km-long Wendlingen-Ulm railway line,  was awarded to the Swiss construction company Implenia at the end of 2015 for around 380 million Euro. The tunnel consists of two single-track tunnels, which are connected with cross passages every 500 m. TBM Sybille had already broken through in August 2019 completing the northern tube.  It’s the longest tunnel
in the district of Esslingen and one of the ten longest railway tunnels in Germany today.

TBM EPB Wanda is 137 m long, has a diameter of 10.82 m and weighs 2,300 t. The TBM has been digging underground for almost two years, installing a total of 3,989 rings. She progressed 15 m a day on average, and hit 32 m at the very peak of its tunnelling. For further information please visit  http://www.bahnprojekt-stuttgart-ulm.de  and https://www.implenia.com/en .
