Victoria, the smallest of the three TBMs working on Watercare’s Central Interceptor project, has completed her micro-tunnelling work beneath Auckland and joined Domenica at the finish line.
This leaves Hiwa-i-te-Rangi as the last machine still working on constructing our massive wastewater tunnel.
Victoria recently successfully broke through into a shaft at Mt Roskill, to the cheers of the tunnelling crew. Over the past 18 months, she has been building a new wastewater and stormwater pipe across Keith Hay Park, which will connect to the 16.2km Central Interceptor tunnel.
The pipe that Victoria constructed will support a significant housing development in the area and help reduce wet weather overflows into local beaches and waterways.
