Phase 4A of the Cairo Metro public works contract was won by a Franco-Egyptian joint venture composed of Vinci Construction Grands Projets, Bouygues Travaux Publics, an Arab Contractor and Orascom Industries. On 27.10.2016, after 199 days and 1811 m of continuous excavation in Cairo’s subsoil, the TBM arrived at the Alf Maskan station. It has now completed 40% of phase 4A.The next part of phase 4A involves the excavation of a new tunnel between Haroun and the future stations El Nozha 1 and 2. The TBM achieved a speed record with a progress of 28.2 m/day and the laying of 19 precast rings. The excavation has been carried out in 4 different subsoils, including two layers of sand and one layer of clay.
