Liafjell- Olvikvatnet finished next year

The Nordland County Council Bent-Joacim Bentzen assured the Liafjell - Olvikvatnet project will be completed  for autumn 2021. Construction of the new 5.5km-long stretch of the Liafjellet - Olvikvatnet County Road 17 in the county of Nordland, started in the fall of 2016. The new section , from Brattland south of Liafjellet to the municipal boundary between Luroy and Rodoy, includes the  Liafjell  (1990m) tunnel through the Liafjellet Mountain and the additional Bakliholtan (360 m) tunnel to Lake Olvikvatnet. Both of them are built with tunnel profile T8.5.The project has faced various challenges: the water penetration in the tunnel was greater than expected, in the fall of 2017, subcontractor SA Anlegg went bankrupt from Fauske, which led to delays; on September 14, 2018, the submarine collapsed,  and a dump and parts of the road disappeared into the sea at the southern tunnel. As a result the project has been extended and the contractors given more time.

The contractor PNC Norge AS (PORR Nordic Construction Norge) secured the 36.3million (NOK340 million) contract on August 2016, click no/211 for tunnelbuilder tender archive.

In mid-December 2019  Aventi Installation AS secured the contract for electrical installations in the Liafjell and Bakliholtan tunnels, emergency stations, emergency networks and connection to the Road Traffic Center (VTS).  Work on the electrical contract for the project has recently started.
