On the 03.02.2018 the first TBM for the Grand Paris Express
line will be named and launched at Champigny-sur-Marne (Ile de France) at
around 5.30 pm. A decisive step in the progress of the works of the new subway,
whose first line, the 15 South, will connect Pont de Sevres to Noisy - Champs.
The largest crane in Europe will drop the TBM’s shield into
the shaft, which will be 20 m deep and located in the departmental park of the
Plateau. The TBM, manufactured by Herrenknecht, is 100 m long and 10 m wide.
The TBM, once assembled, will begin to excavate the tunnel (2.2 km) connecting
the Champigny operations centre, to the main tunnel of the South Line 15 at
Villiers-sur-Marne. The expected average advance will be 12 m / day. The 170 km Grand Paris Express
project involves the use of 30 TBMs: a record in Europe.
