On January 19, 2024 the second TBM to be involved in the excavation of the new Palermo-Catania railway Lot 4B (Enna - Dittaino section) passed its FAT at the Changsha facilities of China Railway Construction Heavy Industry (CRCHI). The first TBM destined for the same lot passed its FAT on December 8, 2023.  

In the two next months the two TBMs will be delivered to Sicily by ship and subsequently will be assembled at the construction site for driving the 13.5 km of tunnels on the15 km railway section between the Enna and Dittaino, part of the new Palermo-Catania Railway.  The work is included as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), with completion expected by 2026. Click here and it/267 for the tunnelbuilder archive.
