The construction of the Iran-Armenia railway will begin after the creation of an important cargo base. The railway will be used mainly for in-transit freights from Iran to other countries. The Armenian government gave the go ahead for the 300-km railway construction project on 07.08.2014. The construction is estimated to in the region of USD3.5 billion. The project outlines the construction of 64 bridges (19.4 km), 60 tunnels (102.3 km) and 27 stations as part of the infrastructure. The construction is expected to be completed in 2022. annual freight traffic will be about 25 million tons.
