On 02/06/2023 Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) and the consortium Afcons Infrastructure - SAM India celebrated the first tunnel breakthrough by the TBM EPB, named Ganga, for the Agra Metro Phase 1 project. The Robbins TBM EPB which is 6.52m diameter and 95m long - had been launched 45days before from Ramleela Maidan reached Agra Fort Station having installed 239 rings (334m), completing the first section of the second tunnel.
Ganga is the 2nd of 4 TBMs commissioned in mid-April 2023 for the construction package AGCC-02 between RBS College Ramp - Taj Mahal Ramp. In March 2022 the Afcons - SAM Consortium secured the AGCC-02 contract, with a value of EUR205.33 million (INR18.20 bn), for the Design and Construction of the Tunnel from the start of the underground ramp (near Fatehabad Road Metro station) to end of the ramp after the RBS college Metro station which includes 7 underground metro stations (viz. Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Jama Masjid, S.N. Medical college, Agra college, Raja ki Mandi and RBS college). The contract includes Architectural finishes, E&M, TVS and ECS.
The first TBM Yamuna, driving the parallel tunnel, reached the same shaft in April after a 77 day journey. In Agra TBM Yamuna and TBM Ganga will build about 3 kms of tunnels each.
TBM Ganga will now be moved through Agra Fort’s station box and relaunched towards the Taj Mahal Station. Click https://tunnelbuilder.com/News/IndiaAgra-Metro-TBM-Yamuna-breaks-through-at-Agra-Fort-station-.aspx the for tunnelbuilder archive. Visit https://www.lmrcl.com/. 23/23.
