Herrenknecht Appoints New North American Sales ManagerHerrenknecht, the world renowned manufacturer of TBM, shield and mixshield tunnelling machines, microtunnelling systems, shaft sinking machines and horizontal directional drilling rigs is pleased to announce the appoint of its new North American sales manager, Julian O'Connell. For the past four and half years, Julian has worked with the James Fowler Company of Dallas, Oregon in the capacity of tunnelling manager. In his new role with Herrenknecht, Julian's responsibilities will cover the whole of North America, including the United States, Canada and the Caribbean, for the range of equipment with the company's business unit Utility Tunnelling (UT). In terms of equipment, his remit will include promotion, sales and general technical support for the full range of equipment manufactured in the UT business unit. This includes the well known AVN slurry microtunnelling machines of which, to date, more than 1,200 machines or containers have been sold worldwide.Julian's remit will further include open shield excavator and roadheader pipejacking systems, the first machine types developed by Herrenknecht, EPB and slurry machines as well as remote-controlled TBM machines, which is one of the more recent developments in this fast growing division.To be added to this list of equipment types are segmental lining machines for up to 4.2 m diameter, for use with open shield, EPB and slurry machines or mixshields, as well as any kind of hard rock TBMs (gripper, single and double shield TBMs).A special range of products includes the mechanised vertical shaft sinking machines (VSM) that have been developed for shaft installations under groundwater conditions with up to 76 m head of water (in dry conditions up to 300 m depth). Shaft sizes from 2.5 m up to 12 m diameter have been built to date. Developments for bigger shaft installations are ongoing. Another further equipment special from the business unit is the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) rig range with up to 600 metric tonnes pulling force capacity, with as an extra option a hydraulic pipe thruster which offers an additional 500 metric tonnes thrust and pulling force capacity.Towards the lower end of the machine range there are the guided auger drilling machines from Bohrtec that have been developed to operate effectively in soils with pressures of up to 3 m head of water.Details for these products can be found on www.herrenknecht.com or through a direct link to www.herrenknecht.de/index.php?id=447.
