Harvey Parker - ITA President with a MissionDr Harvey W. Parker, PE, a tunnel and geotechnical engineer in private practice, has been elected to a three-year term as President of the International Tunnelling Association. Dr Parker has been active in the Association for 15 years, starting as the US representative to ITA in 1989, and serving most recently as First Vice President. He was also the US representative on the Working Group on Shotcrete, and has provided official ITA liaison to the United Nations. He was elected to the ITA Executive Council in 1998, and has served as Tutor to the Working Group on Underground & the Environment.He has pledged to continue to implement the strategy of the ITA, which includes creating a permanent Secretariat; a new website; an electronic newsletter (ita@news); increased funding; new technical & environmental working groups; renewed emphasis on education, training, and safety; and better communications within ITA and with decision makers and the general public.
