The deadline for submission of entries for the Harding Prize is usually 31 January, but for 2019 only it has been extended to 14 February.
The Harding Prize is awarded each year in April. Entry is open to those aged 33 or younger on 1st January of the same year. The entry consists of an original paper relating to any aspect of tunnelling which the entrant considers to be of interest to others in the tunnelling industry.
Harding Prize Rules and entry details
Papers must contain a minimum of 1500 words and a maximum of 5000 words and not exceed 10 pages in total, including titles, captions and references, and should be submitted to the Secretary of the British Tunnelling Society in Adobe PDF format. The word count shall be included with the submission. The text font size should not be smaller than 11pt. The papers are reviewed by a group of BTS committee members and the writers of selected papers are then invited to make an oral presentation to the April BTS meeting. The winner is decided by members of the BTS Committee and receives two tickets to the BTS Annual Dinner, a copy of Sir Harold's book 'Tunnelling History and My Own Involvement' and £500. Runners up whose papers are selected for presentation will each receive a cheque for £100 and all of the remaining entrants who submitted a paper to an approved standard will receive a cheque for £50.
