A Sandvik DT1130i three-boom drill rig, one of the new series from Sandvik, is being employed by Taeah Construction to excavate 2.4 km of the Gwanak highway tunnel south of Seoul. In the main tunnels in hard granite, the crown heading requires up to 150 holes, and the bench up to 80 holes. Hole lengths are varied according to five different rock conditions, and the operator can fine tune the automatic functions of the rig online to achieve best result. Consequently, drilling a round in the hardest rock takes just 1.5 h, employing a single operator. Read the detailed press release and visit www.sandvik.com. 13/12.
