Drainage Services Department HARBOUR AREA TREATMENT SCHEME STAGE 2ACONSTRUCTION OF SEWAGE TUNNELSINVITATION TO APPLY FOR PREQUALIFICATION OF TENDERERS The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will invite applications on 8 August 2008 for prequalification of tenderers for two construction contracts, Contract no. DC/2007/23 and Contract no. DC/2007/24, which form part of the Harbour Area Treatment Scheme Stage 2A Project. The closing date and time for submission of the application is 12:00 noon on Friday, 19 September 2008. The two contracts involve the construction of a total of about 19.5 km of sewage tunnels with excavated spans between 4 metres and 5.5 metres and shafts with various sizes, depths and configurations to provide access for construction, sewage conveyance and connection to the treatment works. The tunnels are to be constructed mainly in granitic and volcanic rock at depths up to 165 metres below sea level using drill-and-blast method. Construction works are expected to commence in the first half of 2009 for completion by 2013. Tenders for the two contracts will be invited from prequalified applicants in November/December 2008. Joint Venture tenderers will be considered. Details of the prequalification will be published on the Drainage Services Department's web page on and after 8 August 2008.
