The final preparations for the opening ceremony of the Gotthard Base Tunnel which is the heart of the New Rail Link through the Alps (NRLA) are being made.

At midnight between 31.05.2016 and 01.06.2016 the Gotthard Base Tunnel will be transferred from the constructor, AlpTransit Gotthard Ltd to the Federal Government. The Federal Government will then hand the tunnel over to the Swiss Federal Railways, who will then operate the tunnel.
