Goodbye WT, hello TTC!April edition of World Tunnelling magazine was the last of the series, and the title has closed after some 150 issues. Launched in March, 1988, WT was well-received by both readers and advertisers alike. The focus on international project reporting brought news from far and wide, together with a readership in over 100 countries. The magazine reached the peak of its popularity in the early-nineties, but the ensuing recession in publishing, combined with serious competition from the Internet, hit revenues across the board. By the end of the decade, WT publisher Mining Journal Group had put itself up for sale, and was eventually bought last year by Mining Communications Ltd. The new owners have since restyled their flagship titles Mining Journal and Mining Magazine, and moved into the mining conference business. The successor to WT, to be called Tunnelling and Trenchless Construction, is promised for mid-May. With two editors, a new sales team, a wider editorial remit, and 10,000 copies/month, it should liven up the sector! Visit
