On the 03.02.2018 at the Champigny Plateau site the launch and the christening of the first TBM on the Grand Paris Express took place. Nearly 4,000 people attended the event and watched the descent of the shield into a 20 m deep shaft.

The TBM, was named Steffie Orbival after an employee of the Alliance company and in reference to the association with Orbival, a prime supporter  of the  Greater Paris Express. The TBM will begin to dig in late March the first 2.2km stretch of line 15 south to the Sentier des Marins disassembling site located in Villiers-sur-Marne.
