First Section Breaks Through on Line 3 of the Madrid Metro Extended from Legazpi to Villaverde'Guster' has concluded its mission to extend Line 3 of the Madrid metro from Legazpi to San Cristobal de los Angeles after ten months of tunnelling works during which this EPB TBM has open its way through 4,290 metres of tunnel, extracting 557,000 tonnes of soil. www.herrenknecht.com'Guster' commenced work in May 2005 in San Cristobal de los Angeles. It has installed 2,860 rings of concrete segments which line the tunnel section through which trains will travel from Villaverde to the city centre of Madrid.This TBM has built five of the seven stations on the Legazpi-Villaverde extended line. The second TBM working on the project, dubbed 'La Adelantada', is progressing well on its way to drive the second section from San Cristobal to Villaverde (2.5 km) and it is expected to hole through in about one and a half months.The 8.7 km-long extension of Line 3 necessitates a EUR619 million financial effort from the regional government. The line will be an enormous benefit to 160,000 Madrilenians living in the districts of Orcasur, Orcasitas, San Fermin, Almendrales, Moscardo, Pradolongo, Los Angeles, Los Rosales, San Andres, San Cristobal and Butarque.
