On 31.01.2013, the final design of the new Turin-Lyon high-speed railway cross-border section, approved by LTF (Lyon Turin Ferroviaire), was presented.
The project has changed in several aspects from the 2005 study. The project now comprises a 57 km-long base tunnel with two independent single-track tunnels with bypasses every 333 m; the cross-border section on the Italian side, 18.1 km-long overall with 12.5 km in the base tunnel; the 2.6 km-long surface section in the Plain of Susa; the 3 km connection to the existing line in Bussoleno, of which 2.1 km is in tunnel; and the 7.5 km-long Maddalena survey tunnel in Chiomonte.
