Epping-Chatswood tunnel cracks

02/04/2009
Epping-Chatswood tunnel cracks The New South Wales Government in Australia is undertaking electronic monitoring of the EUR1.2 billion Epping to Chatswood railway line after cracks appeared in the roof of its 13 km-long tunnel close to the launch pits for the TBMs. A 24 m-long section of the tunnel is under surveillance for movement, while trains continue to use the line. The cracks appear to be limited to the section of roof through the launch shafts site that was replaced after the boring was completed. Repair plans are being drawn up by builders Thiess Hochtief in line with the tunnel's mandated 100-year life span. Visit www.thiess.com.au/Projects/index.htm 13/09.
