Dr. Martin Herrenknecht Receives STUVA PrizeOver 1,200 delegates from 27 nations participated in the popular STUVA Tagung '05 conferences and exhibition organised in Leipzig from 28th November to 1st December, 2005. Held under the motto "Tunnels: New ways - New chances", 35 papers were presented. They highlighted large-scale projects such as the the Gotthard base tunnel in Switzerland, Australia's Epping-Chatswood rail line, Munich's second suburban rail line and, of course, Leipzig's future City tunnel, where construction of the first shafts is under way. Click de/30.Various new developments and advances in the area of shield tunnelling and tunnel linings were on the agenda together with safety issues, which cannot be ignored in international tunnel-related conferences. Other lectures focused on legal problems, contracts, risk management, refurbishment and rehabilitation or environmental protection.The conferences took place concurrently with a technical exhibition in Hall 2 of the Leipzig Congress Centre. More than 100 engineering firms, civil engineering contractors, machinery makers and material and equipment manufacturers, both from Germany and abroad, displayed on their stands their know-how and products on more than 1,600 square metres.
