The Deer Creek Tunnel will be approximately 3.9 miles long, extending from Clayton Road in the City of Clayton, to Interstate 44 in the City of Shrewsbury. The tunnel is bored into deep rock around 150-250 feet below the ground surface and has an inside diameter of approximately 19 feet. The tunnel will collect and temporarily store wastewater during peak periods, adding capacity to collect, transport, and store wastewater that the existing Deer Creek area sewer system cannot handle during moderate to heavy rain. This will help alleviate basement backups and reduce sewer overflows. Construction of the tunnel and ancillary facilities will take place through late 2022.
