Now that the concrete work for the cross connections are ready, the teams are able to concentrate on the tunnel finishing, which includes barriers, emergency exit doors, cables and the installation of traffic management and tunnel safety equipment.
During January, 13 km of concrete barriers were installed, creating a separation between the wall and the carriageway on the N434. Just before Christmas, the southern tunnel tube was also given its first layer of asphalt.
The fourth and final phase was the construction of the accompanying bicycle tunnel, cyclist will be able to use the route between Leiden and Katwijk this summer.
