In October TBM Rachel began boring, stopping every 1.5 m (5 feet) to construct a ring of the tunnel wall. About 106 m (350 feet) of tunnel has been completed so far, and the pace is expected to pick up once the supporting "trailing gear" has been lowered into the access shaft at the Joint Water Pollution Control Plant and connected to the TBM. Rachel will reach Figueroa Street in the first half of 2022 and it will take almost 4 years to build a 11 km (7-mile) tunnel between the treatment plant in Carson and Royal Palms Beach.
