Brenner base tunnel moves aheadAt talks held at the EU in Brussels last week, EU transport commissioner Antonio Tajani, Austrian transport minister Doris Bures, Italian transport minister Altero Matteoli, German transport official Engelbert Luetke Daldrup, and project coordinator Karel van Miert agreed that a memorandum of understanding establishing the legal framework for the EUR8 billion Brenner base tunnel between Austria and Italy could be signed by the participating countries, regions and rail companies on 18.05.2009.
