On the 29th of November 2019 the Brenner Base tunnel reached a milestone and is now 50 % complete. So far they have tunnelled 150km of the 230km needed to finish the project. The Brenner Base Tunnel project consists of two main tunnels for the transit of trains, bypasses connecting the two tubes, an exploratory tunnel, emergency stops as well as access, logistic and service tunnels.
Currently, four construction lots are in operation: Tulfes-Pfons, Pfons-Brenner (Austria), Mules and the Isarco River Underpass (Italy), where about 500 m combined are excavated per week.
