On  the 15/10/2015 C.M.C Ravenna with TBM Barbara broke through on the first part of the 4 km Caltanissetta tunnel, which is part of the 28 km-long section upgrade at the A19 interchange of the SS640 Porto Empedocle, in Caltanissetta and Enna provinces.

The TBM Barbara installed 1952 lining rings, 2 m each, and was advancing  28m per day. The TBM will be dismantled and re-assembled for the second tube excavation.

The Caltanissetta tunnel belongs to the second lot  of the Imera interchange. The second lot includes 6 interchanges (two new), 5 cut & cover tunnels, 4 rock tunnels, three of which will be built with drill & blast, 13 viaducts and other works.
