Metrostav and Havnen Anlegg have started drill/blast construction of the 1,565 m-long Bjornabakkane tunnel in Central Norway. The tunnel, commissioned by Statens vegvesen, will provide avalanche protection for the Fv337 road. The geology is stable granite and granodiorite overburden. The excavated rock will be used for filling a bank section of nearby Lake Veitastrondvatnet. The remaining material will be used to construct avalanche walls. The tunnel cross-section will range from 69 sq m (profile T8.5) to 45 sq m (profile T5.5). The underground structure will be equipped with single-side emergency bays, a side technical room, and an area for a fire truck turnaround. Estimated end of works in 2016.
