The latest Bekaert Dramix 4D and 5D steel fibres are made from ductile wire as used in automotive tyre reinforcement, offering a long useful life after any cracking. Both types of fibre have a more complex shape, resulting in much improved anchoring. Precast lining segments using Dramix 5D as the only reinforcement are on trial and test in various places, to be completed by the end of the year. The first production precast lining segments with Dramix 5D as the only reinforcement will be installed early next year. For sprayed concrete, traditional Dramix fibres, now Dramix 3D, are still the product of choice. The new 4D and 5D fibres are too long to mix properly and apply through spray nozzles, so current research is aimed at obtaining the new fibre performances in forms suitable for sprayed concrete. The new fibres cost a little more, but offer huge potential for cost saving when compared with existing segment reinforcement methods. For more information on the Dramix range please download the
