The 17.4km Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line 5 - Southern Route will be constructed between Gabtoli (not included) and Dasherkandi stations in Bangladesh. The congested central area of Dhaka requires 12.8 km of underground section with 12 stations (Technical - Kalyanpur - Shyamoli - College Gate - Asad Gate - Russell Square - Panthapath - Sonargaon - Hatirjheel West - Niketan - Rampura - Aftab Nagar West ). The remaining 4.6km Aftabnagar Center – Balirpa section will be elevated. The project will be connected to Line 5 (North) at Gabtoli station. A depot will be constructed at the east end of the line near Dasherkandi station. The project is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the Ministry of Road Transport & Bridges.
