In August 2015 the Government of Bangladesh awarded to the China Communication Construction Company Ltd the contract to build the Karnaphuli road tunnel  (3.5 km long, 10 m wide) in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The Chinese Tianhe Mechanical Equipment Manufacturing Company Ltd built a giant underwater TBM to be used to bore the tunnel. Currently it is being assembled in Jiansu, China and it will be shipped to Bangladesh in May 2018. The TBM will start to bore the Karnaphuli river bed by August.
