On the 24/11/2021 TBM Serena with a diameter of 6.85m, a length of approximately 300m and weight 1,500 t has reached the Brenner Pass. The TBM has excavated over 14 km of tunnel in 3.5 years. The excavation of the exploratory tunnel on the Italian side of the Brenner Base Tunnel - the sustainable megaproject that will connect Italy to Austria through the Alps, commissioned by BBT SE - is now complete.

The new milestone brings the excavation of the Mules 2-3 lot to 82%. TBM Serena will now be dismantled inside the tunnel. TBM Serena has operated as an underground factory, guaranteeing none stop excavation of the tunnel. The TBM tunneled 4km per year despite the complexities related to the COVID situation.
