Atlas Copco Launches Super-fast 30 kW Hydraulic Rock Drill COP 3038Atlas Copco took Bauma by storm with the unexpected announcement of the launch of its super-fast COP 3038 hydraulic rock drill. Designed for tunnelling and drifting applications, the COP 3038 doubles the blow frequency to around 100 Hz, compared to its predecessor COP 1838 ME, producing an amazing increase in drilling speed of 50%. It is also 5 kg lighter, and 15 mm shorter. To manage this awesome power, the COP 3038 features a new spool valve system, redesigned hydraulic flow channels, and rapid return impact piston. The front end of the rock drill has also been redesigned to cope with up to 40 bar water pressure for flushing drill cuttings. Hydraulic oil from the dampener drainage provides automatic gearbox lubrication, and most hoses have been connected at the rear end. The COP 3038 is overhauled in the horizontal position and, with 10 % fewer parts than the COP 1838 ME, the operation takes 25% less time. COP 3038 is intended for 43 to 64 mm diameter holes using a T38 shank adapter with the patented Secoroc Magnum SR 35 system. COP 3038 can also be used for rock reinforcement drilling at reduced power, in combination with a R32 shank adapter and a down-sized drill string.A new range of super-fast Rocket Boomer face drilling rigs equipped with the COP 3038 is also under development. These are designated Rocket Boomer L32, L33, XL33, and WL33 where L = large, 3 = 30kW, 2 = two booms. COP 3038 drillrigs will feature new power pack and control system software to fully utilize the power of the rock drill. Visit
