Metro tunnel in Australia have reached another major
milestone, with tunnel boring machines (TBM) Millie and Alice now both on their
way to South Yarra.
The green TBM Alice, named after wartime medical hero Alice
Appleford, has now begun her first journey – tunnelling from the site of the
new Anzac Station to the Metro Tunnel’s eastern entrance in South Yarra. Alice joins the yellow TBM Millie who got a head start on
the new 1.7km tunnel in April.
With TBM Joan now digging towards Parkville, and TBM Meg
joining her in the coming weeks, all four TBMs will soon be digging around 20
metres deep under the city to create the tunnels for Victoria’s biggest ever
public transport infrastructure project.
