The Lausanne Echallens Bercher Railway (LEB) provides an essential link between the Gros-de-Vaud and the Lausanne urban area. The construction of a new tunnel between Union-Prilly and Lausanne-Chauderon stations is part of an important infrastructure, fleet and supply development plan.
On the Avenue d'Echallens, the road is shared between pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, trains and buses and is no longer desirable for safety reasons. Several incidents and accidents have shown that the presence of a priority train is often forgotten by other users. The new underground connection will help to make traffic more secure on the Avenue d'Echallens. The project is worth a total of 136 million francs, and is financed by the Confederation and the Canton of Vaud. The TL and the LEB are in charge of the project management in collaboration with the Cities of Lausanne and Prilly. The construction works will begin in early February 2020 and will take about 8 months.
According to forecasts, the new tunnel will be operational by the end of 2020. For further information click ch/97 for the tunnelbuilder archive. Visit https://www.t-l.ch/le-tunnel-du-leb and http://www.leb.ch. 16/19.
